Meet our summer trainees for 2023
Traditionally, Auramarine has been able to offer a number of summer trainee positions, enabling us to provide a valuable opportunity for aspiring professionals in the early stages of their careers to gain hands-on experience and contribute to our existing teams.
Each summer trainee often works with us for two to four months, helping our teams during summer vacations, and giving us fresh insights and new perspectives for our operations. For these interns, such periods can run in tandem with their academic studies, forming an important start for their careers.
This year we have two new interns, one in design team and the other in spare parts sales team. Read more about Santeri and Joona from below:
Santeri Virtanen, Engineering Trainee (pictured on the left)
1. Tell us briefly about yourself
“My name is Santeri Virtanen, I’m a mechanical engineering student from Turku University of Applied Sciences. Originally, I come from Mynämäki, but I have been living in Turku for the duration of my studies. Previously I have worked as a mechanic, installing engine automation in ships and power plants.”
2. How did you end up working at Auramarine and what do you expect from a summer work with us?
“I found out about Auramarine from an interesting job announcement, but since I have not quite graduated yet, I decided to send an open application. I am planning on doing my bachelor’s thesis at Auramarine, and I’m looking forward to learning more about marine engineering.”
3. How do you spend your free time?
“During my free time, I often like to tinker with small electronics, such as drones. For sports I like cycling and going to gym. In summertime I spend more time in nature, mostly camping and fishing. Recently I have also gotten more into reading books.”
4. Which Auramarine value resonates most with you and why?
“It has got to be innovativeness. Many industries are rapidly changing, and I feel that the ability to adapt and create new solutions cannot be understated. Personally, I also just find new technology and innovation fascinating, it’s the foremost reason I got into engineering.”
Joona Partanen, Spare Parts Sales Trainee (pictured on the right)
1. Tell us briefly about yourself
“My name is Joona Partanen, I’m 24 years old and I’m originally from Espoo, Finland. At the moment I live in Turku and I’m studying Industrial engineering in Turku UAS. I’m specialized in B2B technical sales. My previous work history includes working in retail as a shift manager, a promoter for different kinds of businesses and a logistics person.”
2. How did you end up working at Auramarine and what do you expect from a summer work with us?
“I ended up in Auramarine because we had an introduction to your business at our school. Your employees told a little about themselves and what they do, and I got interested and sent you my application for a summer job position. I was very happy to hear that I got this position because it is connected to my studies in school, and I can keep learning over summertime.”
3. How do you spend your free time?
“In my free time I spend a lot of time doing music related activities. I play guitar in a band, and I produce and write music. I have my own little home studio where I record and mix my own music. I also like spending time with my friends and in the winter, I like to ski. I’m also interested in technology, especially in computers. I have built dozens of computers for myself and my friends and family.”
4. Which Auramarine value resonates most with you and why?
“I resonate with Auramarine’s innovativeness value because of my background in music. Innovativeness is one of the main motivators for my personal hobbies and it is a driving force for almost all businesses. Without innovative thinking, development would stop, and we would stay put and wait for something to happen.”
