Career story of Ramin Forouzesh

Educational path and motivation to enter the marine industry

Ramin Forouzesh works as a Senior Sales Manager at Auramarine. After high school, he studied Marine Engineering at the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences in Rauma and graduated with a bachelor’s degree and the Watchkeep Engineer certification.

Although he didn’t yet have a clear plan in mind during high school, Marine engineering was of interest, as that was also what his father had studied. It also was a combination of many aspects of engineering and included the seafaring aspect, which made it stand out especially. A special thanks goes to his father, as his career showed its versatility, getting to work in many different countries and with many people. So, when it came time to apply to further education after high school, and when researching it more, it seemed even more like a good path to follow.

From engine rooms to sales rooms: Building a career through versatile roles

After graduating from university, Ramin has worked in many different positions within the marine industry. During his university studies, Ramin gained hands-on experience working as a Maintenance Technician and Spare Parts Sales Engineer. He also completed internships onboard various vessel types, where he performed a range of engineering duties.

After graduation, Ramin has worked in Auramarine as a Sales Engineer in the Lifecycle Services department as well as a Sales Manager and Senior Sales Manager in the Newbuilding Project department. At Auramarine, he switched from spare parts sales to the newbuilding project sales to take on a new challenge.

He originally ended up at Auramarine, when a recruitment company contacted him. After many rounds of interviews, he was hired for the spare parts sales, and soon after that he also started to provide post-delivery technical support to customers and handle warranty related matters. However, the project sales felt more like his thing, which is why he changed departments in 2021, as there became an opening for the position. Project sales included long and interesting projects and there is more collaboration with different stakeholders on an every-day basis. Travelling and seeing the world is also at a larger scope, which appealed even more.

Finding the right fit: Why Project Sales became the perfect match

Project sales interested Ramin because of the closer and longer cooperation with the customer it provides, as well as the opportunity to get to work more with both new people and cultures. Additionally, project sales seemed more versatile and posed a different kind of challenge for himself compared to spare part sales. Especially in project sales, Ramin noticed that as there is a lot of responsibility and knowledge that is needed: One is constantly pushed to learn more. Furthermore, the new technologies and the green transition in the marine industry bring, without a question, major development not only in the employee but also the company.

As a workplace to learn and develop, Ramin sees Auramarine as an excellent example. Due to the supportive and development-oriented environment it is easy to develop in one’s current position and even train for different positions within the company. Also Auramarine as an environment enables moving between departments and rising to a higher position. Just as long as one is ready to take on a new challenge and learn constantly.

Workplace culture: Opportunities beyond the job description

The other positive aspects Ramin sees in Auramarine is especially the opportunity to take part in trainings for many different aspects of work, for example sales, as well as the possibility to even study further while working. There is a good working atmosphere, a want to collaborate amongst everyone, and the company’s team money-system encourages departments to keep up a good common spirit. The relatively small size of the company also affects the working atmosphere positively. When asked to talk about his journey at Auramarine so far, Ramin described his journey as multifaceted, extremely educational, rewarding and developmental on many different aspects. Especially getting to take responsibility and learning from projects, learning by doing and from mistakes. He also remarked that 'there is always support available within the work community and everyone has the chance to develop at their own pace’.

Looking ahead: Continuous growth and work-life balance

While Ramin is happy with his current situation, he still wants to continue to develop and grow his competency in his position now, maybe even by starting new studies in a university or taking part in other trainings. Outside of work, he maintains an active lifestyle by playing ball and racket games as well as hiking with his dog.

Ramin’s advice for career-driven professionals

Be proactive and aim to constantly develop your competency in the field you are in. Build and uphold professional relationships, both within and outside the company. Ask and utilise feedback and set clear goals for your career. Take care of your wellbeing and maintain a balance between work and other life.
