Porla sets the standard: Analysing asphaltenes at a down to 0.05%

The Porla Fuel Analyser is an easy, reliable, and fast analysis instrument that is used for analysing oil compatibility within both the refining and marine industries. It ensures product quality and the highest safety standards within the blending process, reducing unnecessary maintenance costs and equipment downtime as well as maximising operational profitability.

The only analyser in the market that is capable of analysing as low as 0,05% asphaltenes

The Porla Analyser enhances the profitability of refinery processes by enabling refineries to select more economical crude oil mixtures without risking fouling problems. It improves efficiency as it operates swiftly and is fully automated, saving work time, and enhancing testing process productivity.
It can measure fuels where at least one of them contains asphaltenes, providing a unique capability to measure asphaltene content as low as 0.05%. Asphaltene significantly impacts fuel mixture stability and can lead to coagulation.

Furthermore, the Porla Analyser’s dilution, titration, and cleaning processes are entirely automated, ensuring the operator has no direct contact with solvents.

It is also possible to analyse asphaltene-free oils. Apshaltane-free analysis is a special version of standard oil analysis that enables measurement of solubility blending SBN of an oil sample that doesn’t contain asphaltenes. The difference is that the unknown sample oil is used in place of the aromatic solvent and in the place of oils is a reference oil with SBN.

The dilution, titration, and cleaning processes are fully automated, ensuring that the operator has no direct contact with solvents.

Auramarine is delighted to announce that new generation Porla Analyser has recently been delivered to a refinery client, assembled, and is now in operation at their premises.

Porla R&D and FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) premises at Auramarine

We’ve established our very own Porla R&D and FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) premises at Auramarine in Lieto, the Turku region in Finland.

Each Porla unit undergoes through a meticulous factory acceptance test at our test facility before delivery to the client, according to our strict procedure and regulations.

Our in-house test facility serves not only for this purpose but also for development of the analyser functions.

PORLA Analyser is suitable for the marine and refinery industries

In the marine industry, the Porla Analyser’s proven technology ensures safety during the bunkering process, preventing unintended maintenance and minimising downtime. Given the vast array of both, established and ultra-low sulphur fuels (ULSFO), essential properties like stability, compatibility, and mixing characteristics become critical factors. This consideration extends to other ‘new’ fuels, such as biofuels in line with the industry’s requirement to meet decarbonisation targets. By taking a proactive approach and embracing technology, issues related to these properties can be anticipated or proactively addressed.

Auramarine’s Porla Analyser empowers users to assess the compatibility and stability of fuels within the tank and any new fuel introduced before bunkering. The solution can be used for blending optimisation of different fuel oils.  Consequently, it offers peace of mind by averting the costs and delays a stem from using non-compatible or substandard bunkers.

In the refinery industry, the role of an accurate analyser is crucial for optimising blending processes involving crudes, feedstocks, heavy oils, and bitumen. It enables refineries to select cost-effective crude oil mixtures while minimising the risk of fouling issues. It’s fast, automated, analysis cycle not only saves working time but also enhances testing process productivity, maximising profitability.

How does Auramarine Porla differ from competition?

Auramarine’s Porla Analyser is designed for testing fuel combinations where at least one of the fuels contains asphaltenes. It offers the capability to measure lower asphaltene content (even as low as 0.05%) compared to other similar analysers in the market.  Fuels with low asphaltene content often encounter stability and compatibility issues, leading to asphaltene clogging in the oil, causing significant operational challenges. Therefore, accurate analysis of asphaltene content becomes critical, particularly for low asphaltene content fuels when fuel sulphur content decreases from 3.5% to 0.1%. The solution is also suitable also for high asphaltene content fuels analysis.
