Finnsirius and Finncanopus, the new ’Superstar’ vessels owned by Finnlines (a part of the Grimaldi group), are eco-efficient ro-paxes and the next step in the evolution of green shipping. These will operate between Finland and Sweden, with Finnsirius started its operation in September 2023.

The newbuild vessel measures 235 meters in length, 33,3 meters in width, with a draft of six meters. It has a capacity for 1,100 passengers and can accommodate up to 5,200 lane meters of freight. It provides space for 200 cars and 300 lorries. A high-capacity battery bank will be charged while the vessel is in port to generate electric power for voyages. While the vessel is at berth, the onshore power supply will provide an alternative energy source, decreasing the reliance on auxiliary engines and, consequently, further reducing emissions and noise.

Auramarine scope on board these vessels comprises the fuel supply units (Type AMB-M-26-SS) with built-in automated fuel changeover system. The automated control system of Auramarine fuel supply units maintains the controlled fuel temperature, flow rate and viscosity at the engine inlet at all times. Automatic filters remove any impurities that could potentially cause system or engine failures. The fuel pump capacity is automatically adjusted by means of variable frequency drives. This feature automatically optimises the amount of fuel supplied to engines to meet each engine load situation.
